Tutorial: Glammed Up New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve is such a glamorous night. All the parties, dress, fireworks, champagne, and promise of a new year. I love going out with Briam and being able to share the beginning of a new year with him. We talk about our resolutions, watch the fireworks, and normally get some kind of ice cream. It always feels like a refreshing way to start your new year off right!

For those of you who are looking for a more glamorous look to rock on your NYE night out, then you've come to the right place! This look is inspired by all of the gold and black decor your normally see around this holiday. Not to mention, it's quite sexy and very dramatic!

Magazine of the Month: Allure

I've always been a huge fan of Allure. I remember when I was about 7 or 8 years old and I was going on my first plane trip alone. I was going to meet my grandma in Arizona for the first time! I had forgotten my book bag full of activities to keep me occupied on the way over there! I was devastated. Well, as devastated as a small child could be. My dad took me to one of those little stores in the airport that has magazines and what not, and told me to pick out a few things. The first thing I picked up was Allure.

The shiny cover, the copious amounts of makeup, and the beautiful people that graced each and every page. I needed it. I read and re-read the magazine over and over again during my 9 hour trip! (Had a long delay in Texas...) My grandma didn't have any televisions. So every night, I would read my Allure again. I'm pretty sure this is when my love of beauty and makeup happened. A lot of people have told me that I have an obsession with makeup. Maybe I do. But tell me, what's so wrong with wanting to find the best and most beautiful products out there?

With my extensive back story being said, my favorite magazine of January 2013 was Allure.

Drew Barrymore looks absolutely stunning on the cover!

Besides Drew, the one thing that really grabbed my attention was the letter from the editor, Linda Wells. She talked about makeovers, which seems fitting for the new year, but it was more than that. Allure was doing makeovers for "disadvantaged young men and women." A makeover can be life changing. And what Allure did for these people was absolutely wonderful. (I teared up a little bit...)

Other bits that I loved:
1. Blush bags: The 3.1 Phillip Lim was my favorite!
2. How to Look Good When You Feel Bad: Perfect article for anyone feeling sick! (or hungover...)
3. Gluten-Free: Very informative article! A good read for anyone looking to go gluten free, or like me and have to go gluten free.
4. Drew Barrymore: I love her. I died over this entire article.

Have you read January's edition of Allure?

Get Fit Workout: Beginner Yoga for the Core

Following along with two of my New Year's resolutions, I've been looking for a few good yoga videos on YouTube. I don't have the best attention span. If the video is the slightest bit boring, I'm zoned out. When I came across the Beginner Yoga with Tara Stiles videos, I was so amazed! These videos are straight to the point and are entertaining. Each move is explained thoroughly and the video is less than 10 minutes, great for a quick workout! Also, because the videos are nice and quick, I like to watch them first before I try. This way, I have somewhat of an idea of what I'm supposed to be doing!

I find yoga to be such an empowering workout. Being able to use my body to build strength all while finding my center and peace is incredible. Every time I finish a yoga routine, I always come out refreshed an ready to get work done! I like to do yoga in the morning to wake me up and help get my day started. B and I, every now and then, will do some yoga stretches at night if we've had a rough day.

Do you do yoga? What's your favorite yoga video?

Don't do yoga? What's your favorite workout routine?

Review: Kaeng Raeng 6-Day Cleanse

Looking to jumpstart your weight loss program for the New Year? Then you have to try the Kaeng Raeng 6-Day All Natural Detox Program! I decided to try this Detox for two reasons: I wanted to lose weight and I wanted to cleanse my body.

Let’s be honest here, the website and a few reviews say that the smoothies taste good. Lies. They taste like crap. I tried mixing the smoothie packets with water, milk, and juice. Still tasted like crap. I had to literally hold my nose and chug these things. The website says you can eat raw fruits and vegetables while you’re doing the detox, but I decided not to add anything to my diet except the smoothies. I drank at least a gallon of water per day, mostly to rid myself of the horrid taste of the smoothies. But you have to remember, this is only my opinion! I'm sure the smoothies actually taste decent... just not to me.

The website also says that once the detox is finished, you could be craving vegetables. Um… who really CRAVES vegetables? Well, it turns out that all I wanted to do for a week after the detox was eat vegetables. And this comes from a girl who was raised on steak and potatoes. In 1 week, I had eaten more vegetables than I had eaten in the past 6 months. I even started to enjoy vegetables that I NEVER have enjoyed, such as kale, tomatoes, and bell peppers.

Did the smoothies taste good? No. Did the Detox Program work? YES! I ended up losing 5.4 pounds in 6 days and, not to over divulge, my body was clean. Kaeng Raeng also offers a 3-Day detox if you don’t want to do the full 6-Day program. The total cost of the program ended up being: $95.99. I used a 20% off coupon code that I had found online. But the regular cost is $119.99 for the beginner program, and the shipping was free.

My New Year's Resolutions

Every year I make new (or repeating) resolutions that normally end up vanishing around March. But this year, I've come up with five measurable resolutions that I'm very confident that I can stick to!

new years, NYE, resolutions, keeping resolutions, yoga, book collection, college, education, health, weight loss

How can I measure each of these resolutions? I'll tell you how!

1. I've made a list of all the books I own, that I haven't read yet. Once I finish reading one, it will come off the list. Once my list is gone, I've completed my resolution!

2. There are plenty of fitness trackers out there on the internet that allow you to, well, track what you do each day. I like to write mine done on my calendar. Being able to see it every morning will remind me that I need to do yoga. Once I've finished my workout, I'll put a check next to the task.

3. Now I'm pretty good when it comes to school, but last semester, even though I got all A's, I felt very unorganized. This semester, I plan to keep a better handle on my assignments and not wait until the last minute to study. This can be measured by what my teacher posts in the online grade book.

4. I get an email from Bloglovin' everyday telling me about my daily feed. Do I look at it? Maybe once every two weeks. But then I just end up passing over some really good blog posts that I should have read! Now to measure this, instead of deleting the email right away, I won't delete it until I've read through my daily feed. If my emails start to pile up, I know I've gotten behind!

5. This is by far the most important resolution on my list. As far as I know, and my doctor hasn't gone into much detail yet, it's an autoimmune thyroid disorder. So, once we figure out the true problem, we can work on the solution. This can be measured by how much my overall health improves.

What are your New Year's resolutions?

How do you stick to them and keep track?
